KEYPORT YACHT CLUB PARTNERS FOR 5TH YEAR WITH THE RAINE FOUNDATION TO HELP PEOPLE IN NEED AROUND THE BAYSHORE
KEYPORT, N.J. – Once again, the Keyport Yacht Club (KYC) will host its annual Bill Volk Regatta, June 9-11, to raise money in support of the work the RAINE Foundation does throughout the Raritan Bay’s Southern Shore Area to help families in need.
The Regatta begins with a skippers meeting on Friday night, June 9, that kicks off a two-day series of races on the Raritan Bay and events at the club. Over the last four years, KYC has raised over $70,000 for the RAINE Foundation, making KYC the largest annual contributor to RAINE since 2013.
In a recent interview, RAINE President Anthony Petruzzi explained that the Foundation works with school counselors and administrators to find and assist kids in crisis and families in need. Those efforts can be as simple as helping a family struggling with a recent job loss to pay bills, funding mental health counseling for a teen dealing with difficult issues, or helping entire families cope with a major illness or tragedy. In 2016, RAINE helped more than 400 families celebrate Christmas by providing toys and gifts tailored to the needs of each family. And, their Easter basket and holiday meals programs are helping put smiles on the faces of many of the less fortunate in our area.
The “on land” events at the club on Saturday, June 10, include dinner, live music, and a silent auction and gift basket tricky-tray. The events are open to KYC members and their guests and registered skippers and crew. Racing is open to all sailboats with a valid Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) certificate. There is also a fun navigator division race on Saturday, June 10, for boats that do not have a current PHRF certificate.
Keyport Yacht Club Commodore Ed Gittines emphasized that because the club has so many members living in the Bayshore area, “we take our responsibility to give back to the community very seriously and our partnership with RAINE is an integral part of that effort.” KYC has been at its current location for 109 years and currently has over 200 members and 150 vessels in its anchorage.
Event sponsors include Crocker Enterprises/The Atlantic House, Saker ShopRites, McDonagh’s Pub, Old Glory Kitchen and Spirits, the Wallis & Pulcini families, and regatta race teams Calyspo and Reverie.
Area businesses and residents interested in supporting the RAINE Foundation’s mission to assist children and families in crisis can help by becoming an event sponsor or donating a gift item for the silent auction and tricky tray. About The RAINE Foundation
RAINE (Reaching All In Need Everyday) is a 501(c) (3) organization established in 2001 to assist children and families who are in crisis. Since its beginnings, RAINE has positively impacted our communities by providing food, clothing, and assistance during the holidays, along with other various necessities for families in crisis throughout the year. The RAINE team consists of compassionate, caring volunteers striving to make a difference in the lives of others.
In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, RAINE’s reach and resources were extended to include the entire New Jersey shore area. In the days and weeks following Superstorm Sandy, RAINE was able to organize their “army of volunteers” to provide food, clothing, and other assistance to those affected, including serving over 20,000 meals per day to victims and first responders. For more information about the RAINE Foundation, please contact Anthony Petruzzi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
About the Keyport Yacht Club and the Bill Volk Regatta
Founded in 1908, the Keyport Yacht Club is located in historic Keyport, New Jersey on the southwest shore of the Raritan Bay. For over a hundred years, the club has been providing a superior boating experience for local and regional water sport enthusiasts. KYC has over 200 members and 150 vessels in its anchorage. Community programs open to the public include a 7-week junior sailing program and adult learn to sail classes.
The Keyport Yacht Club hosted its first annual Bill Volk Memorial Regatta in 1994 to honor longtime club member, William Volk, Sr. who served as a trustee and chairman of the race committee and significantly upgraded the club’s race program. On June 8, 2001, the club held its first Regatta to benefit a charity to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Now in its 17th year, the Regatta has been held every June as an annual fundraising event for a charity partner. Since 2013, the club has raised over $70,000 for the RAINE Foundation.
